Uzi Fly Trap for Silkworm Rearing — India
Sericulturists: Your silkworms are under attack.
Uzi Fly Is
Destroying Your Silk Crop
Exorista bombycis — the Uzi fly — is the most destructive pest in Indian sericulture. It lays eggs on live silkworms during the 3rd–5th instar, hatches larvae that feed on the host from inside, and kills it before it ever spins a cocoon. No chemical spray can stop it safely. Only an organic Uzi fly trap can.

The Uzi Fly: Why Chemical Sprays Always Fail in Silkworm Rearing
The Uzi fly (Exorista bombycis, family Tachinidae) is a specialist parasitoid — biologically tuned to attack silkworms. It does not contaminate like a housefly. It destroys from the inside, killing your cocoon crop at the source.
Worse: silkworms are so chemically sensitive that any insecticide strong enough to kill Uzi flies also kills or degrades the silkworms themselves. And Uzi flies develop resistance to chemicals after just 1–2 spray applications — permanently.

Scientific ID — What You’re Dealing With
Family: Tachinidae · Species: Exorista bombycis (Louis)
An endo-larval parasitoid. Lays eggs on silkworm larvae (3rd–5th instar). Larvae hatch, burrow inside, consume host tissue. Host dies before spinning stage. Prevalent in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Maharashtra.
Uzi Fly Lifecycle in Your Rearing House
🥚
Egg DepositionFemale lays 300–1,000 eggs over 9–25 days directly on silkworm larvae. Eggs hatch within 24–48 hours. One female creates thousands of flies in a single rearing shed.
⚠️
3rd–5th Instar — Critical WindowPeak vulnerability. Larger silkworm surface area = higher egg load per worm. A single infested rearing tray can lose 80–100% of larvae before spinning.Highest Risk Period
🪱
Internal FeedingUzi maggots burrow into the silkworm body. They feed on internal tissues, killing the host in 3–5 days. Dead silkworms never reach the spinning stage — zero cocoon yield.
🪰
Adult Emergence & Re-InfestationPuparia exit the dead silkworm and develop into new adult Uzi flies — which immediately seek out the next batch. Without a Uzi fly trap in place, the cycle compounds every rearing season.

The Organic Solution
India’s First Organic Uzi Fly Trap for Silkworm Rearing
FlyTrap’s disposable organic Uzi fly trap uses a food-grade, non-pheromone attractant that lures both male and female Uzi flies before they reach your rearing trays. No chemicals. No risk to silkworms. No residue on cocoons. Endorsed at Central Silk Board Farmers Meets in Karnataka.

Set Up in 2 Minutes. Controls Uzi Fly for 30 Days.
No training. No equipment. Designed for silkworm rearing units of every scale — from small farms to large operations.
Step 01💧
Add Water to Activate
Fill the bag to the marked line. The organic food-grade Uzi fly bait activates on contact with water, releasing a scent irresistible to Exorista bombycis adults.
Step 02🌿
Hang Near Ventilators
Position at 3–4 ft height near ventilators, windows, and shed entry points — the exact entry paths Uzi flies use to infiltrate rearing houses.
Step 03🪰
Uzi Flies Trapped Inside
Both male and female Uzi flies enter and cannot escape. No mating = no egg-laying. The infestation cycle breaks within weeks as the adult population collapses.
Step 04🗑️
Seal, Dispose, Replace
After 25–30 days, seal the cap and discard safely — zero fly contact. Replace before every new rearing batch for continuous silkworm protection.

The Real Stakes
What Uzi Fly Infestation Costs You Per Batch
The Uzi fly doesn’t just reduce yield — it eliminates it. One infested batch in Jarua (Dec–Jan) or Chotua (Feb–Mar) season can wipe out months of mulberry cultivation, silkworm rearing labour, and shed operating costs in a matter of days.
💀
100% Silkworm Mortality Per HostOnce Uzi larvae penetrate a silkworm, recovery is impossible. The host is killed before it ever reaches the spinning stage.
📉
20–90% Crop Loss Per SeasonDocumented mortality range from Journal of Entomology & Zoology Studies. Feb–March crops show up to 70% cocoon rejection.
🧪
Chemicals Kill Silkworms TooSilkworms are highly sensitive to insecticides. Sprays cause high silkworm mortality and leave toxic residue on cocoons, degrading market quality.
🔄
Resistance Builds in 1–2 SpraysUzi flies rapidly develop resistance to chemical pesticides, rendering sprays permanently ineffective after minimal use.
🏭
Cocoon Quality & Reeling Yield DropEven partially infested silkworms produce thinner, weaker cocoons with poor silk thread output and reduced market acceptance.

100% Safe for SilkwormsOrganic food-grade bait — zero pesticides. Your silkworms, mulberry leaves, and cocoons face zero chemical risk from your pest control.
♾️
Breaks the Uzi Fly Breeding CycleNon-pheromone bait catches both male and female flies — stopping reproduction at the source, not just killing individual adults.
🧬
No Resistance Ever DevelopsUzi flies cannot develop resistance to an organic food-based attractant. It works effectively every season, indefinitely.

Recognised by Central Silk Board & Dept. of Sericulture, Karnataka
On 21st June 2024, at the Farmers Meet at Government Cocoon Market (GCM), Kolar, the organic Uzi fly trap was presented to silk farmers alongside Central Silk Board and Karnataka Government officials as a safe alternative to chemical Uzi fly control. Free traps were distributed. The event was covered in Business Standard. A similar meet was held at Ramanagara, Karnataka.
